CRISIS
The succession of the English throne (1066)
CRISIS
Welcome to the 2024 University of Bath Model United Nations Conference. This Crisis committee is very pleased to introduce the Crisis for this conference. At BathMUN 2024, we’ll be exploring the Succession of the English throne, inspired by the multilateral and complex events of William of Normandy’s accession in 1066.
This Crisis has taken months to prepare, involving many meetings, trials, hours of research and consideration. With 13 staff, multiple volunteers, the BathMUN secretariat, and a tenacious drive to keep doing Crisis (even after we promise ourselves we’ll never do it again) , we want to ensure that we as your staff can deliver the best possible Crisis experience for you all at BathMUN.
Crisis is already a unique committee, with no 2 crises ever being the same. This Crisis certainly holds its own unique characteristics, presenting an incredible variety of scenarios and opportunities rich with options to explore. The possibilities for diplomacy, problem-solving, negotiation, tactical thinking and practical application will provide a great platform for each and every person involved with this committee to show their abilities.

A staffed backroom will be present, responsible for running and overseeing the crisis, as well as for responding to directives. We strongly recommend pre-written security directives, but other than that, no other prepared material is necessary. Research into the current situation, the society and culture at the time, and the delegate’s character is also strongly recommended. We will also be using the Master of Disaster (MoD) software throughout the crisis, this shall be explained in greater detail later in the guide.

Throughout the conference, all Crisis delegates will be supported by chairs and backroom. Please familiarise yourself with the rules of procedure and other helpful documents sent by the Crisis team.
THE CHAIRS

ISABEL JONES
ANGLO-SAXON CHAIR | KCL UNA
Isabel is a third year European Politics student at King's College London. She started doing MUN two years ago as a first year and has fully embraced it having chaired and delegated at numerous conferences over the last two years. She is incredibly excited to return to BathMUN as a chair having been a delegate last year and having enjoyed the experience massively. She is looking forward to welcoming delegates to the Anglo-Saxon cabinet and hopes everyone enjoys all that they have in store for them.
MORRIS SHAYE ERISMANN REVKOLEVSKY
NORSE CHAIR | SHEFFIELD MUN
Morris is an international student doing his 4th year of study in engineering at the University of Sheffield. However, on his (scarce) spare time, he enjoys Photography, Judo, and tinkering on his computer.
His first MUN conference was back in 2017, where he fumbled as France in the Security Council (he did bring a baguette, though). But with time came experience, and now he has over 20 MUNs under his name.
P.S: Ask him about Brazil, and he will be happy
DIYA SELASTIN
NORMAN CHAIR | QMUN
Diya is an international student from Abu Dhabi, studying Law at Queen Mary University of London. She attended her first MUN conference when she was 14, and hasn't stopped ever since. She also enjoys art, music, and travelling, and occasionally even paints murals. In her spare time, she works for her university's Student Union and helps run a few societies, including Women in Law. She also plays badminton for the Barts London Women's Team. It's an honour to be chairing the Norman Cabinet in Crisis, and she can't wait to see everyone shine and enjoy every bit of the conference!
THE NORMAN BACKROOM

ROB SUNNUCKS
BACKROOMER | WARMUN
Rob is a PhD student in Mathematics at the University of Warwick and has been actively participating in MUN since 2018. Throughout their involvement, Rob has developed a strong focus on crisis committees, with BathMUN 2024 representing their 15th crisis committee. Outside of MUN, Rob has a keen interest in strategy and board games, as well as being a passionate fan of football. Rob is enthusiastic about supporting the backroom team for the Norman cabinet and is eagerly anticipating connecting with everyone in November.
OTTO OLDRIDGE
BACKROOMER | WARMUN
Otto is a 3rd year PPE student from Warwick. He’s been involved in MUN for 8 years, and is adamant that BathMUN is the best conference you can attend.
JOSEFINA INFANTE KOZAROW
BACKROOMER | QMUN
Jo is currently in her second year of studying French Law and English Law at Queen Mary University of London. Having spent half her life in the French education system, she has a particular affinity for the Norman Cabinet. This summer, Jo spent three weeks on the Baltic Sea, perhaps taking her preparation for this crisis a bit too seriously by simulating the Viking experience. She discovered crisis last year and absolutely loved it. Jo is looking forward to orchestrating an experience as enjoyable as the ones she had.
THE NORSE BACKROOM

GABRIEL KNIGHT
BACKROOMER | BATHMUN
Gabriel is a second year politics with economics student after a stretch in the astrophysics department. He has been doing MUN since September 2022 and doesn’t miss a session! He has a wide range of hobbies including football, F1, fencing (I’m getting to the non-sporting ones!), geography, chess and Diplomacy. He is a backroomer for the Norse cabinet and has always had a love for history. As an Arsenal fan, it gives him another reason to want an away victory at Stamford Bridge!
SIMON JAMES PUTTOCK
BACKROOMER | EXMUN
Simon James Puttock is the current Crisis Officer at the University of Exeter Model UN Society (ExMUN) and is a PhD student in Environmental Intelligence. Described by others as a “Crisis Goblin”, Simon is looking forward to helping backroom the Norse Cabinet and is currently reading the many works of the legendary twelfth-century Icelandic historian, poet, and politician Snorri Sturluson in preparation. Despite being part of over a dozen crisis events and having an undeniable love for cardigans, Simon still denies his 'old man' reputation. When not busy “working”, Simon spends his precious free time making ambient music, bouldering, and playing tabletop games with friends.
PIA HEONG
BACKROOMER | BATHMUN
Pia is a 2nd Year Psychology student at the University of Bath. She is from Malaysia, but has lived in China for 10 years before moving back for high school. Upon starting university, Pia was introduced to the MUN pyramid scheme for the first time and enjoyed the several conferences she attended. Beyond MUN, she likes baking, word games, playing chess mediocrely, and ‘leisurely’ strolling in the parks of Bath. This will be her first time backrooming for Crisis and she is looking forward to it.
